Coal coke.
Coke resulting from the coking of coal. Its output when coking coal ranges from 75 to 78%. Contains from 96 to 98% of carbon C, as well as hydrogen H, oxygen O, sulfur S, nitrogen N and in minor amounts some other impurities. The true density of coal coke has values from 1800 to 1950 kg / m³, apparent density - about 1000 kg / m³, porosity - from 49 to 53%, bulk density - from 400 to 500 kg / m³, ash content - from 9 to 12%, yield of volatile substances - from 0.8 to 1%. The moisture content of coal coke depends on the method of quenching during coking - when dry quenching does not exceed 1%, and when wet quenching is from 2 to 4%. The lowest calorific value is from 29 to 30 MJ / kg. Depending on the purpose, properties and sizes of pieces of coal coke, its following varieties are distinguished - blast-furnace coke, foundry coke, gas-generating coke, coke for non-ferrous metallurgy, energy coke and coke nut. The fines remaining after sorting with lump sizes up to 10 mm are called coke breeze and are used as fuel and reductant for sintering iron ores and ferroalloys, as well as energy fuels.
